Worksite Wellness Programs & Legislation
Where do most Americans spend their day? At work.
Is there anything that your worksite could do better to influence your eating and exercise habits? You bet there is!
Worksites can increase the awareness of lifestyle factors that are associated with chronic disease.
Making healthful delicious foods available at the worksite is just as important to adults as it is to school children.
Encouraging employees to be more physically active during the day is equally important as making diet changes.
Top management support is critical to the health of the company.
For nearly 30 years, I have helped companies to evaluate their current wellness plans with the goal to reduce preventable risk factors, increase participation rates, and get results. I target the risk factors for heart disease, diabetes and cancer using science-based approaches that follow the national guidelines of the National Institute for Health.
Below, are some current federal bills that are important to health. Contact your legislator today!
Current Legislation to support health:
Preventing Diabetes in Medicare Act (H.R. 3124 and S. 1299)
Medical Nutrition Therapy by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist is an effective, evidence-based practice that is cost effective and can result in weight loss and improve prediabetes insulin markers.
Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (H.R. 2404 and S. 1509)
Obesity is not going away. We need more tools in the toolbox. This bill removes barriers to allow a variety of qualified practitioners, such as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, to treat obesity through Intensive Behavior Therapy (IBT) and authorize coverage of FDA approved weight loss medications that complement IBT.
